In Saturday's papers, it was reported that a non-profit organisation is conducting a vote for the world's new 7 wonders of the world. The website at http://www.new7wonders.com/index.php?id=633 has now published the results and are as follows:-
1. Great World, China
2. Taj Mahal, India
3. Petra, Jordan
4. Colosseum, Italy
5. Pyramid at Chichen Itza, Mexico
6. Christ Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)
7. Machu Picchu, Peru
However, I feel that there are some other wonders that should make the list. A look of the remaining 14 finalists:
1. Statute of Liberty, US
2. Stonehenge, Britain
3. Sdyney Opera House, Australia
4. Statues of Easter Island, Chile
5. Great Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
6. Timbuktu, Mali
7. Eiffel Tower, France
8. Angkor Wat, Cambodia
9. Kremlin, Russia
10. Alhambra, Spain
11. Kiyomuzu Temple, Japan
12. Hagia Sopia, Turkey
13. Acropolis, Greece
14. Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany
If I have voted, i would have included the Pyramids and the Angkor Wat in the wonders list. But how did Sdyney Opera House get into the finals?!?
It seems that there are a number of such organisations listing such sites....the Unesco also has a world heritage webpage (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list) which shows 851 places around the world. Alas, our little dot does not feature in the list! :P
