Watched The Duchess on the flight to TW this morning. At first was abit apprehensive cos it seem abit heavy for a day when I woke up so early, however, I quite enjoyed the show.
Keira Knightly is Georgina, who marries the Duke of Devonshire...an eligible bachelor...however, she soon realises that his sole purpose for her is to derive a male heir (seems like the old ang moh tradition does not differ much from the old Chinese thinking). Anyways, she found out that the Duke is not interested in their daughters in his bid to sire a son. For her own good, she shuts her eyes on his little indiscretions and realised that she should have considered more before entering into her marriage.
She meets up with an old friend and realised that he has been in love with her all the while and they become lovers. Soon, the Duke finds out and Georgina had to choose between her lover and her children.
This movie seems to reaffirm the fact that someone or something may look like a blessing, however, many-a-times, real life is not as rosy as it seems...whilst on the other hand, someone or something may not look too promising at first, may be more suitable.
